IBM Langflow OSS Remote Code Execution (RCE) Vulnerability Advisory (CVE-2026-9198)
Executive & SecOps Summary
SECOPS ASSESSMENTIBM Langflow OSS versions 1.0.0 through 1.10.0 in default deployments
Unauthenticated attackers can obtain superuser tokens and execute arbitrary Python code, leading to full system compromise
Immediately upgrade to the latest patched version, disable auto-login, and restrict network access to the application
Affected Products & Version Scope
Remediation & Live Workaround Commands
PATCH & WORKAROUND1. Apply Official Patch
Upgrade your Langflow installation to the latest secure version (1.10.1 or higher):
pip install --upgrade langflow2. Temporary Mitigations
- Disable Auto-Login: Force authentication by setting the following environment variable to false:
export LANGFLOW_AUTO_LOGIN=False- Network Segmentation: Ensure the Langflow service port (default: 7860) is not exposed to the public internet. Restrict access using firewalls, security groups, or VPNs.
- WAF Rules: Implement Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to block external requests targeting
/api/v1/auto_loginand/api/v1/validate/codeendpoints.
Block Exploits Instantly with Managed Virtual Patching Rules
Can't patch production immediately? Deploy managed WAF rules at the edge to intercept RCE, SQLi, and deserialization payloads before they hit your origin server.
Technical Root Cause & Exploitation Mechanics
This vulnerability is a critical Remote Code Execution (RCE) exploit chain resulting from two distinct flaws in IBM Langflow OSS:
- Authentication Bypass: The
/api/v1/auto_loginendpoint is exposed by default, allowing any unauthenticated network caller to mint a high-privilegeSUPERUSERtoken. - Code Injection: Using the acquired token, attackers can access the
/api/v1/validate/codeendpoint, which executes arbitrary user-supplied Python code via the unsafeexec()function.
By chaining these two endpoints, an unauthenticated remote attacker can achieve full remote code execution on default Langflow deployments. This vulnerability is actively exploited in the wild and is listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
Official Vendor Advisories & References
IBM Langflow OSS 1.0.0 through 1.10.0 allows unauthenticated attackers to chain /api/v1/auto_login (mints SUPERUSER tokens to any network caller) with /api/v1/validate/code (executes user code via exec()) to achieve full RCE on default Langflow deployments
