Trend Micro Apex One On-Premise Directory Traversal and Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (CVE-2026-34926)
Executive & SecOps Summary
SECOPS ASSESSMENTTrend Micro Apex One (On-Premise) server installations.
A local attacker with administrative credentials can modify key tables via directory traversal to inject and deploy malicious code to connected agents.
Apply the official security patches provided by Trend Micro immediately and restrict administrative access to the server.
Affected Products & Version Scope
Remediation & Live Workaround Commands
PATCH & WORKAROUND1. Apply Official Security Patches
Immediately download and apply the latest security patches and hotfixes from the Trend Micro Support Portal:
2. Temporary Mitigations
If immediate patching is not feasible, implement the following defensive measures:
- Credential Hardening: Enforce strong password policies and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all administrative accounts to prevent credential compromise.
- Network Access Control: Restrict access to the Apex One management console and server ports to authorized administrative subnets only.
- Behavioral Monitoring: Monitor Apex One server logs for unauthorized configuration changes, key table modifications, and anomalous agent deployment activities.
Block Kernel Privilege Escalation & Ransomware Payloads Before You Can Reboot
Protect unpatched Windows, Linux, and macOS workloads against in-memory exploitation and lateral movement with autonomous EDR.
Technical Root Cause & Exploitation Mechanics
A directory traversal vulnerability (CWE-23) exists in the Trend Micro Apex One (on-premise) server. This vulnerability allows an attacker to modify critical key tables on the server.
To successfully exploit this vulnerability, a potential attacker must already have local access to the Apex One Server and have obtained administrative credentials through other vectors. Once authenticated, the attacker can leverage the directory traversal flaw to manipulate the server's key tables, enabling them to inject and deploy malicious code directly to the managed agents connected to the affected installation.
This vulnerability is actively exploited in the wild and is listed in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, requiring immediate remediation.
Official Vendor Advisories & References
A directory traversal vulnerability in the Apex One (on-premise) server could allow a pre-authenticated local attacker to modify a key table on the server to inject malicious code to deploy to agents on affected installations. This vulnerability is only exploitable on the on-premise version of Apex One and a potential attacker must have access to the Apex One Server and already obtained administrative credentials to the server via some other method to exploit this vulnerability.
