Affected Vendors
ninjaforms
Affected Components
ninja_forms
Published Date
2026-10-31

Executive & SecOps Summary

SECOPS ASSESSMENT
Affected Scope

WordPress Ninja Forms plugin versions up to, and including, 3.15.5

Impact

Unauthenticated attackers can inject malicious scripts via a single request, potentially leading to administrator session hijacking and site takeover

Mitigation

Immediately update the Ninja Forms plugin to the latest secure version (3.15.6 or higher)

Affected Products & Version Scope

All WordPress Ninja Forms plugin versions up to, and including, 3.15.5

Remediation & Live Workaround Commands

PATCH & WORKAROUND

1. Apply Official Security Patch

The primary mitigation is to upgrade the Ninja Forms plugin to version 3.15.6 or later via the WordPress Admin Dashboard immediately.

2. Temporary Mitigation via WAF

If an immediate update is not feasible, deploy Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to inspect and block malicious payloads targeting the nf_ajax_submit action and the formData.extra parameter.

Example ModSecurity Rule:

apache
SecRule REQUEST_URI "/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php" "id:109997,phase:2,deny,status:403,log,chain,msg:'CVE-2026-109997: Ninja Forms XSS Attempt'"
SecRule ARGS:action "@eq nf_ajax_submit" chain
SecRule ARGS:formData.extra "@rx <script[^>]*>"
Recommended Security Control & Mitigation Partner
Cloudflare Enterprise & Pro WAF
Update the Ninja Forms plugin to the latest version immediately to mitigate unauthenticated remote script injection risks.

Block Exploits Instantly with Managed Virtual Patching Rules

Technical Root Cause & Exploitation Mechanics

A critical Stored Cross-Site Scripting (Stored XSS) vulnerability has been identified in Ninja Forms, a popular WordPress form builder plugin.

Root Cause & Exploit Mechanics

  • Insufficient Sanitization & Escaping (CWE-79): The vulnerability exists within the handling of the formData.extra parameter, where user-supplied input is stored without proper sanitization and rendered without adequate output escaping.
  • Nonce Validation Bypass: The nf_ajax_submit endpoint contains a logical flaw where it issues a valid security nonce to any requester upon failure. This behavior effectively neutralizes the nonce protection mechanism, allowing unauthenticated attackers to trivially exploit the vulnerability in a single HTTP request.

Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can permanently inject arbitrary JavaScript payloads into the application database. When an administrative user views the submitted form data within the WordPress backend, the payload executes in the context of their browser session, enabling session hijacking, unauthorized administrative actions, or complete site defacement.

Official Vendor Advisories & References

NVD Original English Description

The Ninja Forms – Contact Form Builder with Calculators, Quizzes, Signatures & AI Form Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'formData.extra' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.15.5 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The nf_ajax_submit endpoint issues a valid nonce to any requester on failure, effectively neutralizing the nonce check and making exploitation trivially achievable in a single unauthenticated request.
