Google Chrome V8 Inappropriate Implementation Sandbox Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (CVE-2026-3910)
Executive & SecOps Summary
SECOPS ASSESSMENTGoogle Chrome and Chromium-based browsers prior to version 146.0.7680.75
A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox renderer process by enticing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML page
Immediately update Google Chrome to the latest stable version (146.0.7680.75 or higher)
Affected Products & Version Scope
Remediation & Live Workaround Commands
PATCH & WORKAROUND1. Apply Official Security Patch
The primary remediation is to upgrade Google Chrome to the latest patched version.
- Manual Update on Desktop:
- Open Google Chrome.
- Click on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner.
- Navigate to Help > About Google Chrome.
- Chrome will automatically check for updates and install them.
- Click Relaunch to complete the update process.
2. Enterprise Group Policy (GPO) Enforcement
For enterprise environments, administrators should enforce automatic updates using Group Policy Objects (GPO) or MDM solutions.
- Registry Configuration to Force Auto-Updates (Windows):
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Update" /v UpdateDefault /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Update" /v AutoUpdateCheckPeriodMinutes /t REG_DWORD /d 1440 /f3. Temporary Mitigation
If immediate patching is not feasible, restrict access to untrusted external websites and block suspicious inbound/outbound web traffic at the network perimeter.
Block Kernel Privilege Escalation & Ransomware Payloads Before You Can Reboot
Protect unpatched Windows, Linux, and macOS workloads against in-memory exploitation and lateral movement with autonomous EDR.
Technical Root Cause & Exploitation Mechanics
This vulnerability (CVE-2026-3910) arises from an inappropriate implementation within the V8 JavaScript and WebAssembly engine in Google Chrome.
By leveraging a crafted HTML page containing malicious JavaScript, a remote attacker can trigger memory corruption (CWE-119) or code injection (CWE-94) within the V8 engine's optimization or memory management pipeline. This allows the attacker to bypass standard execution flow and execute arbitrary code within the context of the browser's sandbox.
With an EPSS score of 0.94 and its inclusion in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, this vulnerability is actively being exploited in the wild, making immediate remediation critical for enterprise security.
Official Vendor Advisories & References
Inappropriate implementation in V8 in Google Chrome prior to 146.0.7680.75 allowed a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside a sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High)
